A Minor Magic Blog Tour

Over the course of a single night, mystical fires tore through the sky and reduced most of Earth to ash. Ten years later magical fire burns again, but this time it’s in the hands of a young girl named Skylar. Exiled from her adoptive home, Skylar must now struggle through ruined lands and religious zealots who believe she’s an agent of the Devil. An even greater threat exists in the form of shadowy sorcerers from another world who covet her blood. Along her journey, she meets a motley band of outcasts who not only know the secret of what happened to Earth, but also of Skylar’s true origin. Will Skylar be able to accept this fantastical truth? But more importantly, can her powers and raging heart be tamed in time to stop those who once burned the world and now seek total domination?

Exerpt:

Skylar's eyes filled with a flickering blue light as ghostly flames jetted from her palms, and her screams were lost over the roaring of the blaze. Instinctively, she shook her hands, slapped them against her legs, and then clapped them together to try and extinguish the fire. As her hands touched, the flames vanished. To her astonishment her skin wasn't burned. It wasn't even warm. Sadly, the same couldn't be said for Buster. The dog was a smoking ruin at her feet, one more pile of burnt remains in a world already covered in ash. Her heart broke as she stared down at him. Oh god, she thought. What's happened? What have I done?

"Oh my Lord, girl," a man said behind her. "What did you do?"

Skylar whirled around, her eyes widening in guilt even though she didn't understand what had happened, or how. "Henry, he jumped at me! I don't know why he did it, and I tried to stop him, but..." She fell silent, her thoughts too scrambled to know what more to say. Buster was a dog she'd loved and cared for ever since coming to live on the farm years ago, and without warning, he had attacked her. When she'd held her hands up to ward him off, blue fire had erupted from them and consumed him as though it was a living, ravenous thing. Nothing like that had ever happened to her before, and she couldn't rightly explain what she didn't understand.

Rogue Alliance by Michelle Bellon & Interview!

Trying to escape a horrific past, Shyla has immersed herself in life as a tough, sassy cop in the bustle of LA. When the case of a lifetime takes her back to her hometown of Redding , she is thrown into a world of organised crime, deceit, and bitter reminders of her childhood.

As Shyla’s path crosses that of Brennan, an unwitting and troubled sidekick to the ringleader she’s intent on taking down, she is forced to re-evaluate everything she believes about herself, her job, and what she knows about right and wrong.

Can she face the demons of her upbringing and learn to trust again? Her life will depend on it.

Excerpt:

He faded in and out of consciousness. Sound, light, and movement blended together until he couldn’t tell one from the next. Coherent thought was impossible; fragments of ideas filtered in then slipped through the sieve of his mind. He was weak, dehydrated, and starving.

The one consistent concept he was able to grasp was his name. Brennan Miles. The name he had given himself. Simple, strong, normal; all qualities that he longed for. He no longer remembered his real name, just as he no longer remembered anything before he’d come to the institute.

The few who had ever met him took one look at his stocky build, and thought he looked plenty strong. He could see it in the way they looked at him with a mix of awe and fear. But he wasn’t strong in the way that he wanted to be. At the moment, he wasn’t even physically strong. They’d kept food and his supplements from him for over seventy-six hours - the longest period to date. Water was the only offering and even that had been the bare minimum. They wanted to see how powerful his need would be when triggered.

He had seen how intense his need could be and what it could drive him to do. All those other times, though, he had been in prime condition - healthy and agile. In his current state, he doubted he would be able to lift his head, much less give in to the power of his unnatural instinct. The doctor would be disappointed.

Serves him right, he thought.

Brennan heard the swish of the door open and close. His acute sense of smell instantly recognized the scent of Doctor Shinto and that of a stranger. Repulsion and hate flowed through his veins. The voices of his visitors drifted in and out. They spoke about him as if he weren’t there. He was just an object, an experiment. He wanted to lash out and crush the doctor. He wanted to give in to his need here and now, but with his ankles shackled and his wrists bound, he would do no such thing. Even if he had been unrestrained, he doubted that he could stand up, let alone end Doctor Shinto’s unconscionable life in his current condition. Instead, he let his head loll against the back of his chair and listened to the conversation at hand.

“Don’t get too close, Mr. Champlain. He can smell us. I don’t want him to be tempted.”

“Tempted, huh?” Champlain said, “he’s restrained and looks to be half dead. What threat could he be?”

Dr. Shinto spoke methodically. “He’s been without supplement or food for over 3 days. He’s had only 50ccs of water daily. He is extremely weak and dangerously dehydrated and will go into hypovolemic shock if he doesn’t get what he needs very soon.”

His voice was devoid of concern. The only inflection was a breathless excitement revealing the delight he took in his work.

One on One with Michelle!

Hello and welcome to an awesome interview with the uber-talented author of Rogue Alliance, Michelle Bellon! I hope you enjoy!

What/who inspired you to become a writer and why did you choose the genre that you write?
The main thing that inspired me to write was my basic love for books and the stories within. I’ve been an avid reader, of most genres, for my entire life. I’ve toyed with the idea of writing a book for a long time but didn’t believe that I had the capability to do such a monumental task. In my mind, writers were always god-like. I mean, I’d wonder, how in the heck could they come up with such creative ideas and characters and then synthesize all of that information into a full, comprehensive story? It was just too amazing.

Then one night I had a dream. It was very vivid and when I woke up I knew it was a story that should be written down. So I got up and jotted down some notes then went back to sleep and that was that. The next day that dream haunted me. I knew it should be a book. But I doubted that I could do it. But after that dream came another dream and another. Finally, I decided to stop doubting whether or not I could do it and made the decision to do it anyway then wait to see what happened. Six months later I wrote THE END and couldn’t believe I’d done it. Granted, it was a complete mess and needed rewritten and edited within an inch of its life, but by god it was a book!

What was the title of the first book you've ever written and what was it about?
Embracing You, Embracing Me was the first book I wrote. It’s a young adult coming of age novel about a girl, Roshell, who grows up in poverty. Her perspective on love is skewed by the fact that she has been hurt and let down my men her whole life so she believes that all men lie, cheat, and leave. Those fears cause her to push away the people she loves the most. When she meets Gabriel she is instantly overwhelmed by her feelings toward him. It takes a lot of work but eventually Gabriel’s patience and love win her over. Almost. But she still can’t seem to quit pushing him away even though she loves him. When tragedy strikes, Roshell learns some of the hardest lessons that a person can experience. The question is, will she overcome her lifelong fears and finally accept that love that is being offered?

Are your characters inspired by real life people? If yes, who?
Not with all of my books, but yes, definitely with the YA. All of the characters are based on people that I know. In fact, most of the experiences in the novel are based on some of my own experiences. You’ll have to read the book to know more about that story. =)

If you could meet anyone famous, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Elvis. My mom is a fan, like one of those really intense, over-the-top fans. So I grew up with his music and movies. It would be cool to arrange a meeting with him and make sure my mom was there. (Your mom and my Aunt would totally get along!)

What is your favorite time of year?
Summer! It’s filled with sun and swimming and shorts and barbeques and hot, late nights and romance and my birthday!!!

 Favorite song of all time?
Silent Lucidity by Queensryche. (OMG me too!!!)

 Favorite movie of all time?
It’s so hard to narrow it down. The Notebook is the best chick flick and I love most Tarentino films. (Mine is Labyrinth. LOVE David Bowie!)

Most annoying sound ever?
It’s not that it’s annoying but the sound of my children coughing is the worst sound. It means they’re sick and I don’t like that at all.  ( I totally agree!)

Most annoying call to get first thing in the morning?
Any call first thing in the morning is pretty much annoying, especially if it’s before I’ve ingested large quantities of coffee. After that I can pretty much handle whatever comes at me. (Agreed)

Most weirdest thing you've ever eaten and liked it?
Kim Chee. (I have some homemade stuff from my mom-in-law I can share =) )

Most lovable character you've created?
Loveable? Hmm, I’m not sure that I write loveable. All of my characters come with very real flaws. However, everyone loves Gabriel. He’s impossible not to fall in love with. And everyone really responds to Sabrina’s comic relief. These are both Embracing You, Embracing Me characters. (Think I need to check this book out!)

Anything new and interesting you are currently working on?
I’m currently writing the second book to my paranormal romance suspense, Rogue Alliance. I’ve also got three finished novels just kind of sitting around waiting for me to figure out what I want to do with. They just happen to be my favorite pieces of work and I’m very excited to see what happens with them.

Which book are you excited to see made into a movie? Significance or Mortal Instruments? I haven’t read Significance so I’d have to say Mortal Instruments. That whole series was great.
( I haven't read the MI series yet but LOVE Significance!)

Any book recommendations that I must absolutely must read?
Besides my own? Hehe. Just a few months back I read The Edge of Never. That was an incredible book. Excellent writing that took me through every emotion. I highly recommend that novel.
(I'll have to check that one out too and it's .99 on Amazon!)

Justus has sworn an oath to protect her life, but can he guard her from the one man who has a right to claim it?

Zoë learns the price of freedom...
and the value of loyalty.

(Due to sexual content and language, this series is recommended for 17+)

What I think:

I love this book. This series is fast becoming one of my favorites! It is different from the other paranormals out there and puts a twist on the Mage concept. I love how the story is written and played out. Adam is the kind of guy who is honorable and who do anything for you as a brother and a lover. Justus is full of hidden passion and I cant wait to read Twist. I do hope that there is a POV from Justus or Adam in the works =)

I highly recommend this series as it was recommended to me!

About Ms Dark:

Voted Aug. 2012 Readers' Choice Favorite Author on GraveTells. Dannika Dark was born on a military base in the U.S. and traveled the world in her childhood. Now she is rooted in the south, but her head is planted firmly in the clouds. When she is not writing, Danni enjoys a great sci-fi or fantasy movie, heaps of chocolate, and unleashing her dark side.
The Mageri series is an exciting adult urban fantasy blend with paranormal romance following the journey of a young woman's claim to immortality...and her own identity. Dark, unique, and full of unpredictable twists, the Mageri series provides an original spin to an old concept. Sometimes ordinary people are destined to lead extraordinary lives.

Shattered Grace Blog Tour & Giveaway

Torn between the man who’s come to protect her and the one sent to destroy her, she teeters on the edge of decision, trying to come to grips with who she is, what she wants and what all of that means for her, those she loves and the rest of mankind.

Excerpt:

“It wasn’t your fault,” Quentin said softly as he came up behind her, touching her briefly on the shoulder before lowering himself to sit on the edge of the coffee table. He leaned toward her, resting his elbows on his knees as he stared into her eyes, his expression conveying his compassion.

Grace raised her tear-filled eyes. “It wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t in the car with them.” Tears spilled over her lower lids, blurring her view of Emily’s picture glowing from the cell phone she still gripped.

“Look at me.” Quentin lifted her face with a gentle finger. “It was my fault. It’s my job to keep you safe and I failed.”

She heard every word Quentin spoke, but couldn’t cling to them like he intended. Every one of her friends could have died—because of her, not him. Visions of caskets and grieving families had her pulse quickening. Worry festered in the center of her chest—circling and tearing at her until what rose forth was anger. With every beat of her heart, the anger pulsed stronger. No. In her head, she said it again. No. The word ricocheted like a war cry through her cerebral cortex until it owned her, heart and soul. Energy channeled through every inch of her body. A shiver chased behind it. Those she cared for and loved would not pay for what she was.

In that instant, Grace felt the power of her choice thunder through her like an electrical current. Just like Seth in the movie, she chose to be what she was meant to be, and not to shed what she originally thought was a burden. Newly determined, she leveled her gaze with Quentin’s.

“What do I need to do to make sure they never hurt anyone I love again?”

Quentin gazed back at her, his features rearranging themselves into an expression flat and cold—deadly. “You train and you fight back. You let me do my job. And we don’t let them win. Ever.

Resolve steeled her voice. “We won’t.”

Jessica by Laura DeLuca

Wilbur was used to going to his college formals alone. He thought the Halloween Ball would be no different. He’s amazed when a beautiful girl in a Victorian costume displays an interest in him and even more amazed to find himself alone with her on one of the campus nature trails. What Wilbur doesn’t realize is that another woman has her eye on him too. The White Lady returns every Halloween to take revenge on the men of the campus for her brutal murder. She has chosen Wilbur as her next victim.

Sneak Peek:

Wilbur thought he was going to collapse when Jessica wrapped one arm around his waist. He could feel her fingers, soft as silk, touching the nape of his neck with her other hand, and it made his flesh tingle. She even went so far as to lay her head on his shoulder. Her hair brushed against his cheek and the fresh, flowery scent made his vision blur. At first he thought it was just his allergies, but then the whole room and all the people in it seemed to change. The woman all wore full lacy gowns with their hair piled up in fancy up dos, while the men waltzed beside them in tailored suits with long tails and top hats. Even the music had changed from the typical sappy love song to a classical ballad played by a string quartet. He swore he saw the musicians in the corner; their bows sliding effortlessly over the strings of their instruments while their fingers pulsated in perfect vibrato. Even the floor under their feet had changed from the faded gymnasium floor, marked with the lines and circles of the basketball court, to hand laid tile in intricate patterns reminiscent of a Victorian ballroom.

As they circled the dance floor in an oddly quickened pace, the faces of the dancers started to transform even more. The beautiful nineteenth century ballroom aged and decayed, as did the men and women that surrounded him. Grotesque monsters with bloated skin and empty eyes dragged their decaying limbs in slow motion. Wilbur watched them with growing horror, almost forgetting about the girl in his arms. The monsters noticed the stranger among them. They reached for him with fingers green from rot. Catching his breath in fear, Wilbur pulled away from Jessica and very nearly stumbled to the ground.

Textual Encounters by Morgan Parker Blog Tour

Katie discovers an unlocked iPhone in the back seat of a taxi. But instead of turning it in to the driver as lost, she decides to keep it for herself. Outside of the usual clutter you would expect to find on a smartphone, what captures Katie's interest is the single conversation she finds on the phone's secure text messaging service, a three-month dialogue between a woman with an uncertain past named Christine and a single, eligible man named Jake. What starts out as a message intended for someone else ends up being the beginning of a relationship more powerful than anything Christine or Jake have ever experienced.

Exerpt:

For a brief moment in time while sitting in the cab, the stars align. I realize just how rare these moments are and decide to take advantage of it. I make a quick, mental shopping list of all of those other big things my parents never gave me – the Spring Break trip to Miami Beach for my senior year in high school, the congratulatory BMW for getting accepted to Columbia, the hot boyfriend who was supposed to propose after fourth year and help me avoid the hectic life that typically follows med school. Okay, maybe I couldn’t blame my parents for not getting me that last item, but if the Universe could deliver an iPhone, it sure as hell can find me a husband.

With my wish list ready and the iPhone in my lap, I close my eyes and channel all my energy, every last ounce of it, at the Universe. And that’s when it happens. The phone actually starts vibrating. My eyes shoot open and I look down in shock.

Fern by Amy Richie

“It’s strange how fast life changes. Just when you think you have it all figured out, a council man hands you six werewolves to take care of.”

Willow and her pack had barely settled into their new town when the council showed up again. Only this time its to ask for their help—to save Gage. How can Willow refuse?

Suddenly, Willow is thrust into a world of childhood nightmares. The Ancient City. But it isn’t at all what she thought it would be. In fact, Willow soon realizes that not many things are what she thought they would be and she has to figure out for herself which things are worth fighting for.

My Review

Ok so....wow! Talk about awesomesauce with a side of bloody Hell! We catch up with Willow and her pack without a break in the storyline. The Council shows up in their backyard asking for help; they want to go into the Ancient City and rescue Gage. An added bonus...Bella or should I say Fern and maybe Lily?
Not having read Willow prior to Fern, I was a little lost. So what did I do you ask; I read Willow of course! After that...Fern was intense! The beautiful imagery painted with words to describe the Ancient City's surrounding woods and city itself was amazing. Amy did an outstanding job with both Willow and Fern that I can not wait for the next install to come out!

Pulse Promo Blitz

Esa is a street girl living in a post apocalyptic world. A world that left her with nothing except the physical and mental scars that drive her to the person she is becoming.

Whilst searching for shelter, she encounters a creature known as a spinner who pulls her onto a perilous path. Now with a horde of goblins close on their heels, they must work together and enter the magical realm in search of answers. Why can she sense magic and why is a powerful sorcerer determined to end her life?

This is an exciting story of power, friendship and secrets. Secrets that threaten to rip Esa’s world apart.

Pulse is aimed towards the young adult market. For those seeking adventure and magic with a futuristic edge. Most fantasy novels tend to hide the magical worlds or show as historic here I have tried to blend the worlds together.

Excerpt:

Excerpt 1

“Oh, girlie, you really shouldn’t have said that.” His beady red eyes greedily took in the girl and seeing no real threat he lunged forward. His sword scraped the wall where moments earlier Esa had stood. Pushing from the wall, she twisted to the side and drove her dagger deep into the goblin’s extended arm. A yowl filled the room and he swung his sword blindly in her direction. In one fluid movement she dropped to the floor and kicked her leg out. Boot hit shin and he fell to the floor grabbing his leg.

“No one calls me girlie.” Standing over him she turned the dagger around in her hand, bringing the hilt down on the base of his skull. “Night, night.” Wiping the blood from her blade on her jeans, she turned her attention to Rootu.

Excerpt 2

Thomas stopped as he reached the wooden door. It stood slightly ajar and he could see Esa nestled in the corner, her back to him. He stifled a gasp as he caught sight of her skin. At the bottom of her ribs he clearly saw an old knife wound, across her shoulder blades were a number of what looked like cigarette burns, and line upon line of marks like wires. Some old, silvery in the light and others still red and puckered. The skin had attempted to grow over large gashes through the years, but nothing could hide the evidence of a brutal attack. What drew his attention was the huge scar that started at her waist and snaked its way up her spine and eventually wrapped itself around her neck.

To Breathe the Breath of Isis Blog Tour

One woman. One man. An eternity of love hammered into twenty-one pieces of silver.

Marguerite is a victim of a vicious attack. The resulting brain damage causes amnesia and when she inexplicably appears in a tomb in Thebes, she insists she was coming to meet Robert Bruton. Disorientated, destitute, and alone, she senses that her necklace has led her to this familiar swashbuckler who takes her breath away; however, he claims he does not know her.

Lord Robert Bruton, eminent Egyptologist, and possible spy for the crown, has never discovered anything as captivating as the young woman he recovers unconscious on his dig. He has staked his career on finding the final resting place of Queen Tiye and wonders why Marguerite possesses a piece of jewelry belonging to the Eighteenth Dynasty queen. She could be a tomb robber, an American spy, or a madwoman spouting fantastical stories.

As the necklace’s curse is revealed, the fire of Marguerite’s and Bruton’s ancient bond burns between them. But when Marguerite disappears, Bruton fears that the wings of Isis have carried away the true treasure he has been seeking his entire life.

For to breathe the breath of Isis is to be reborn.

Marguerite had spent two weeks in the desert with her task master. He was quiet except for his constant examination of her knowledge of Egyptian history. Lord Bruton had a rugged swagger and raw strength that probably frightened most of the damsels of the day, but because he seemed familiar to Marguerite she ignored his bravado.

They dined alone under the stars most evenings, a fire mingling between their piecemeal conversation. Bruton spent most of his nights playing records on his phonograph and studying her under hooded eyes that revealed nothing of his thoughts. He tried to convince her to sleep in one of the tombs to avoid the cool nights, but the thought of the confinement was more than she could bear, so she slept on a pallet across the tent from him.

She woke early this morning to find him gone. It wasn’t the first time she’d awoken to his empty pallet, but he usually snuck away in the darkest part of night. Marguerite tore her covers off, dressed and went to work, telling herself that who he was with was none of her concern.

Marguerite’s work table was positioned so that the shaft of daylight fell over the surface, and she could read the papyrus document. The stagnant air dancing with dust motes moved, and a shadow fluttered down the stairs of the tomb. Down one step at a time, over the surface of her sheltered respite, the silhouette bringing the dry scorch of the desert. Marguerite stopped dabbing the hanky across her upper lip to glance up from her transcription to stare at the figure whose features were hidden under the brim of his hat.

Bruton put his hands on his hips. “What on earth are you doing now?”

“I’m working.” She brought a hanky to her brow, but it was dry, like the fine filament of a shroud. She considered the rest of the tabletop, wondering about the location of her water canister.

“Is there a particular reason for your state of undress?”

Marguerite imagined the exasperated look on his face, happy that she couldn’t see it because after fifteen days, it was losing its desired effect. “I’m only partially unclothed. I came down expecting to remain alone. You went roaming the desert without me, again, remember?”

“Why?”

“Why?” She refused to look away from the papyrus, drawing a magnifying glass over the textured surface, forgetting the heat and the water canister. “Because you enjoy keeping me up to my elbows in work while you traipse off into the luxuries of Luxor.”

“Why are you partially unclothed?” He took the last of the stairs moving behind her, gazing over her shoulder. “What is this?” he asked, snatching her corset, which was dangling off the snout of a dog-headed ceramic figurine.

She eyed him from the corner of her eye, pretending to squint from the reinfusion of light. “That would be the most preposterous women’s undergarment. I plan on sacrificing it over the spit at dinner.” She made another note in the margin.

“I believe that this is a necessary woman’s undergarment for a woman with your kind of figure.”

Marguerite looked up with narrowed her eyes. “I am too busy to care about your insults right now.”

“Knickers, you confuse insult with observation.”

“Yes a very keen one,” she started fanning herself with her sketch-pad, since the temperature seemed to suddenly rise.

“Do you really have time for a break when there is so much copying to be done?”

“Do the papers strewn everywhere indicate inactivity?” She huffed. “Anyway, I’ve copied everything that you asked for, Herr Kommandant.” She extended her makeshift fan and was sorry for its loss.

Bruton opened the pad, amazed at the accuracy in all the tomb drawings, which were beautifully rendered. She had gone so far as to color in a section of each wall so that he had a feeling of the overall color scheme.

It was more than he expected, and he continued paging through the drawings until he came to a sketch of Zita, it was detailed, capturing her sweet disposition in the thoughtful strokes around her eyes. Dr. Beshwani was on the next page, and she had drawn his austere manner in a handsome fashion. Agnes followed, without her habit, her hair down around her elbows, and the overall effect was quite seductive.

He turned the next page and stared at his own reflection. She had gotten him precisely right, down to the fine lines just starting to form around his eyes. The only thing missing was his goatee. “You must not care much for my facial hair,” he said rubbing his jaw thoughtfully.

Marguerite turned away from her work to wrangle the portfolio away from him. All her jostling drew his attention to her shirtwaist which was partially unbuttoned, exposing the lace of her chemise. She cleared her throat, trying to get him to look at her face again, but when he didn’t, she said, “I don’t think the absence of the corset bothers you as much as you let on.”

He gave her a wry twist of his lips. “I never said I minded it at all, Knickers.” He winked as he released the book, taking her in leisurely.

She turned back to her work. “You know if I didn’t know better, I’d think you’ve been watching me.”

He couldn’t contain himself; a broad smile erupted, exposing his teeth. “You are the most intriguing thing I have to ponder.”
